20 December 2007 Advantages of the off-portal model
The global VAS (Value-Added Services) market has passed the stage of development, when operators could multiply ARPU through means of content sales alone, and today’s subscribers increasingly require quality content and VAS. Accordingly, to satisfy their needs and retain their loyalty, global mobile telecommunications operators are moving from monopolistic control over VAS toward collaboration with many content and service providers and give them an opportunity to deploy services on the basis of their infrastructure. Revenues from the implementation of this model – commonly referred to as D2C (Direct2Customer) – will amount to nearly two-thirds of the $44 billion total, based on the volume of the entertainment content market projected for 2010. Apparently, the Russian VAS market will develop along similar lines. In his interview, Oleg Prikhodko, the Product Director at Bercut Ltd., reveals the challenges to be taken up by the Russian operators, the disadvantages of the current business model, and the role of infrastructure in the process of reorganizing the content business.

04 September 2007 Controversial nature of mobile advertising and the role of an operator in a period of uncertainty
There has recently been a lot of discussion in the worldwide operator community about mobile advertising. It looks like the new (there's nothing new under the sun) concept has finally conquered the protracted yearning for a VAS killer application in the collective consciousness of the industry.

As DDM experts are aware, this situation will radically change by the end of this year. We decided to inquire about ICB technology and the Bercut company’s i-Cell solution specifics. Bercut Company is very well known thanks to its developments in this field. Mr. Alexey Boiko, the editor of DDM magazine, holds a phone interview with Olga Tukmakova, Bercut Company’s i-Cell product manager.

30 May 2007 Telecommunications operator infrastructure for effective VAS implementation
The mobile communication market has entered the saturation stage and the operators’ business tasks have changed. What is the most important now is not increasing the ARPU, but holding it at the current level and changing its structure: the ARPU share, which belongs to value-added services (VAS), should grow.

12 February 2007 i-Cell: technological and marketing aspects of introducing the services based on Interactive Cell Broadcast
The Cell Broadcast technology (CB) enables an operator to broadcast information in the text form to the area of servicing the arbitrarily selected set of base stations. Actually, the technology works on the “point-to-territory” principle, rather than the “point-to-point” or “point-to-multipoint” principle.
